I have to kick it into gear!

I have had a hard time training on my trip to Texas. It is so hot and humid here that running is a very difficult thing. I have not stuck to the training program as well as I should have with the hot weather and my kids getting some strange sickness with a trip to the ER (they are better now). I could give a ton of excuses but now I just need to step up and kick it into gear when I get back to Portland. I have done a lot of swimming in my parents' pool, I have to swim at least 80 laps to get in 25 minutes of swimming. I have ran a little and biked on their stationary bike but now I am ready to really train. Let me know when and where you are training the rest of the week and starting Wednesday I will be there.

As for what I wore for the triathlon last year, I swam in my suit with my bike shorts. I wore a sports bra under my suit. For transition 1 I pulled down my suit, put on a dry shirt, socks and shoes and I was off. I did wear a race number belt. The lake was warm enough so I did not wear a wetsuit. The Luna All Womens Triathlon is low key, women just go out and have fun. It reminded me of the same attitude as the Hippie Chick. It really did not matter if you had a "fancy" bike, everyone was just there cheering each other on. There were all shapes and sizes with a lot of kids cheering their moms on. There is a mini triathlon for kids, I am thinking of signing Baylee up for it. My neighbors' kids all did it last year and loved it.

I am excited to train with you all when I get back in town and get to know you all better.

Watched a HIM today!

We've been vacationing in Sunriver this past week and unbeknown to us we were here for the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival. This morning they had a half marathon, full marathon, endurance duathlon and a half-iron triathlon. I decided to be at the finish line when the tri was finishing and it was sooooo inspirational. It has been hot here this week and you could tell that the athletes were wiped out from the intense sun.

I also checked out the clothing that most triathletes were sporting. Lots of one piece tri suits and some women were running in just swimsuits. Many very spiffy bikes as well.

All shapes and sizes of people were competing. It is wonderful to see that those who compete aren't all skinny-minnie sixpack hardbodies. Lots of regular looking folks.

Anyways, it really got me very jazzed about the upcoming race. I was starting to loose a bit of steam about it, but now I'm psyched. Time to step up my training and find a real bike...

The Good, the bad, the ugly

Hey Gals,

Just thought I would give a little update to keep myself accountable.

The Good- The new bike is great!! I ran Roy Rogers on Friday and Monday and it took me 15 minutes less on the new bike!

The Bad- I am still SSSLLLOOOWWW!! I also decided to swim as fast as I could this morning to see how "fast" I am, and I am not fast at all.

The Ugly- I have gained 5 lbs since I started this training- yuck!! So apparently, I need to change my eating. I do feel stronger overall, but my new muscles will not show themselves if I keep gaining flab. :-)

So, how is everyone else? It has been so fun training with many of you.

I bought a bike!

So, it is not a road bike- I am not quite ready for that commitment financially!! It was a bike listed on Craigs List that happened to be around the corner from my house. The owner works with my neighbor in the fire department and they are just a nice couple. The bike is a mountain bike with road tires and no shocks and suspensions- thank goodness! The gears felt smoother, the bike is lighter, and I think it will be a good bike for me as I am trying to figure this whole thing out.

So, I will probably still not be able to keep up with my friends on road bikes, but I will feel much better. I am ready for my next bike ride!

Heather and I did Roy Rogers on Friday, and I will admit it was very tough for me. I was going way too slow for Heather. I look forward to trying it again on my "new" bike!

How was everyone else's week?

Triathlon gear

I've been thinking about all the stuff that I could buy for this race like...padded bike shorts(my tush still hurts from Monday), an outfit you do everything in so you don't have to change, a belt thingy that you put your number on so you just have to buckle it real quick, one of those tiny shammy things that you see the olympic swimmers use to dry themselves with, bike shoes that fit(if I decide to use the clipless pedals)... I could go on but I was just wondering what is essential? Maybe those who are experienced(Kirsten and Mindy) could help me decide what I really need and what is more of a "perk".

Loving the Variety!

So, yesterday's workout was tough for me. I couldn't keep up with my other biking buddies, and my legs felt like jello for the run!

Today's workout was awesome! I am really enjoying swimming and the running afterward doesn't feel too bad. It was great to be with Molly and Kirsten for our 30 minute run. Thanks ladies!

So, tomorrow at 6am at the Y. It says 30 minute run, but I was actually hoping to do a 4-5 miler- slow!!

Let me know if you are interested or I will see you tomorrow!

MIndy, I hope you had a good flight. Class went well today, I thought, only a few kids. :-)

Thanks Kelly!

Thanks for setting this blog up, Kelly, it will be a great way for us to stay on track with our training. I am going to send this link to my sister-in-law, Angie, who will be doing the triathlon as well so she will know what we are doing over here in Portland. This is going to be fun! I loved doing the triathlon last year, it was an incredible experience. This year will be even better because of all the support from great friends.

Mindy

Welcome Tribabes!

Hey Mindy, Stephanie, Molly, Heather, Kirsten and Marnie!

This is going to be so much fun! I, for one, need to know I am not alone. I need accountability and I am honestly really nervous about this whole process. Thanks for all the support. I love hanging out with all of you!

Use this blog as much or as little as you want.

Tomorrow I will be at the Y at 6am for a swim and run. Join me if you would like! I am lifting weights on Mondays and Thursdays whenever the workout for that day is finished.
